Karen Gloyn, owner-operator of ATP Therapy, is an experienced New Zealand Registered Nurse, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), and Laser Technician. Most of her career has been spent working in the Primary Health field as a Practice Nurse in Medical Centres, Public Health Nursing and for several years as a nurse in Health Services in the NZ Prison Service.
In 2011, whilst managing her successful IPL therapy business, she was introduced to Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT), also known as Low Level Laser Treatment (LLLT).
The concept of reducing inflammation, swelling and pain and accelerating healing without medication or sharp objects was compelling. Karen spent time researching this treatment and accessing training in Australia, where she became aware of the growing trend towards using this treatment in Canada, USA, UK and Australia.
In 2013, ATP Therapy was established. ATP is the abbreviated name for Adenosine Triphosphate present in all forms of life and put simply, it equates to cell energy, which is restored during the treatment process. The therapeutic capabilities of the clinic grew in 2017 with the introduction of
NovoTHOR® therapy, a whole-body red light device. This bed can effectively treat the entire body for pain and inflammation and enhance cell regeneration within a 20-minute session.
LLLT is not new. Scientists have known for many years visible and near-infrared light (NIR) has a beneficial effect on cells; however, it is only in the past few years that the dose has been reduced to a level that sometimes provides instant results at a cellular level. The best analogy of LLLT is photosynthesis.
